Tiny Dancer

She always reminded me of Tiny Dancer, a song I loved which Elton John wrote back in the day he was still regarded as a serious singer/songwriter. Every day she danced and twirled throughout the neighborhood in her short white skirt, enchanting us all with her energy, talent, and infectious good nature.

I longed so to talk to her, but about what I had no idea. One day I took a deep breath and took a chance.

"I love your dancing," I said. "You remind me of the song Tiny Dancer."

"Amazing," she replied, "because it was Tiny Dancer that inspired me!"

"Gee! But nowadays  ..."

"Course that was before Elton John trashed his talent to become a pop star."

Ever since, Tiny Dancer and I have been inseparable!

   ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I guess there's worse bases upon which to build a relationship than a dislike of Elton John, so pick out an artist or group you hate (ABBA's taken, rest assured!) and give it a shot. That's what I did this week for the Friday Fictioneers, dancing and twirling my way in at 26 words above the Fictioneer 100 word guideline in my entry above based upon the similarly above  picture prompt.
I like "old" Elton John, which is actually the "young" Elton John, and am less than enamored of the Johnny-Come-Lately Johns. Whether you like any, all, or none of the Johns, you'll like the entries of the other Fictioneers, all pop stars in their own right and in a good sense, which you'll find by clicking here.
Well, folks,
off to count the headlights on the highway!   And maybe some day to even find myself a Tiny Dancer of my own.
Very cute story! Sometimes all it takes is a leap of faith.
And mutual abhorrence helps too. Thanks!
I have never been good at ice breakers. Usually my attempt to work up the courage ends months later with a restraining order. Great Story!
Perry Block said...
Ha! That's why this is a complete work of fiction.
A fun, "true-love" story. But, have the two of you discussed Sirs Paul and Mick? And what about Bowie The Decliner? Elton may have been the ice breaker, but Jagger may be the deal breaker. Keep us posted.
Thanks! I like Sir Mick and Bowie the Decliner, and as for Sir Paul, I may kind of hate his music now but since he was one of the Beatles, I would still die for him! But Elton John, after a promising start, makes me sick. Thought it might be fun to write about two people coming together over a song they both love by an artist they both hate and since the prompt made me think "Tiny Dancer," voila!
Is better to have loved and lost than to never love at all . . . or tried!
I used to be a songwriter. Unfortunately, my biggest hit to date, "Don't Let the Screen Door Hit You on Your Way Out," did little to endear me to females fans looking for love.
Nice. Whatever it takes to connect to a soul mate.
You rank among the greats, such as Roy Clark's take on "Thank God and Greyhound your gone." LOL Not women trapping songs. :-)
And they lived happily ever after! My kind of story. :)
Perry Block said...
And some loves are better lost. Or never found. Thanks!
Perry Block said...
Yes, Russell, but the manly beard and fetching physique took care of all else the screaming females craved! (Just trying to paint you a nice picture before bed.)
And I'm sure Roy Clark had great things to say about all this, but I live in the North and I just about know who Roy Clark is!
Hating things in common, in this instance.
Perry Block said...
Well, they're inseparable. I didn't say they liked it that way.
Dear Perry,
It seems he hit on just the right pick-up line. I always liked that song and now it's running through my head. Thank you.
Shalom,
Rochelle
Neat story -- I'm glad the guy took the chance to talk to her. You never know what you'll have in common!
Perry Block said...
I always loved that song but came to hate the glitter queen personality John morphed into. So the girl for me is a Tiny Dancer who hates the guy who wrote Tiny Dancer; too bad she doesn't really exist. Anyway, enjoy the song!
Perry Block said...
Thanks. I should have acted that way more in real life.
Your character could have got into trouble following the woman round, even an odd one who pirouettes round the streets in a tutu. Entertaining tale.
Nice take on the prompt Perry, and no worries, many of those tiny dancers aren't all they're cracked up to be (quite a few are even closet ABBA fans...!)
Hi Perry,
I much prefer Jackson Brown's song, For A Dancer. I've always been watching Sir Elton from the twenty-second row. Unfortunately, his candle burned out long before his legend ever did. Ron
If you are happy, it really doesn't matter what brought you together.
Anyone hating Smokey... (oh but I hate everything they did)... hmmm. what else. Love your take.
Dear Perry,
I liked your story because of the way the two characters bonded. Good job.
Aloha,
Doug
Perry Block said...
Yes, it was fun writing that, especially since it's the kind of thing I never did nearly enoughtin my real life. So if there's a morale to the story, GO OUT AND DO IT!
Perry Block said...
Yes, she could have been a rabid Elton John fan who likes Crocodile Rock or worse, an ABBA fan!
Perry Block said...
AHHHHHH!!!!!
Perry Block said...
I would ALWAYS prefer Jackson Browne. Agree about Elton. Thanks, Ron!
Perry Block said...
Well, the character in the story appears to be happy. Thank you, Sir Elton!
Perry Block said...
I'm sure I would hate Smokey too, even though I have no idea who they are. Smokey the Bear, though, I like!
Perry Block said...
Yeah, I wanted it to be kind of sweet this time around, not so funny. I'll go back to funny. I'm not that comfortable with sweet.
janet said...
You did sweet well, Perry. Just saying hello changed the direction of the story in the same way that Adam's story changed from a murderous outcome to a mostly positive one. The only murderous thoughts in yours come from the author, though. I see we were tiny dancers together this week, albeit to completely different endings.
I was always a sucker for a short white skirt flying up in the air, and I, like you, would have taken a deep breath and a chance, and lucked out if I could find a musical basis and bias that we skirt over or around.
Two skirts up on this little story! Randy
I liked Sir Elton all the way up to Candle in the Wind.
Perry Block said...
Yes, let's hold each other closer, we Tiny Dancers!
Perry Block said...
Thanks, Randy. The only problem is the real me probably wouldn't have taken a deep breath and a chance. But I am glad the fantasy me has a lot more guts!
Perry Block said...
I liked him all the way up to ... maybe this song.
