The Jazzmen

Sometimes after two o'clock at night, in some of the smokiest out-of-the-way music clubs in town, you hear the sweetest improvised jazz you've ever heard in your life.

I couldn't believe the sounds coming from two local artists, Jesse Wolf and Billy "Tubbs" Augustine, last Thursday night at the Coltrane Club.

Jesse Wolf can play the guitar and make it sing.  And Billy Augustine is one of only three or four people in the world to play his very unique instrument.

Billy blows the "outtee navel."  He is rumored to have the biggest outtee in the world. It's quite a treat to see and hear Jesse playin' his heart out on guitar while Billy's blowing the blues on the outtee with his great big belly stickin' out.

Jesse Wolf on Guitar and Billy "Tubbs" Augustine on Outee Navel: SWEET!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It's not every day you get to see the world's biggest outtee ... or want to. So depending upon how you interpret the picture above,  gaze away at it in awe, or not. Simply put, a naval engagement was my interpretation of the picture prompt above for this weeks' Friday Fictioneers enclave.*
You can contemplate your navel, as well as the navels (and stories) of the other Fictioneers by clicking right here.
Now that I've focused you on something you rarely focus on,  guess what? Clean That Thing Out!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
*If  you don't see it, look at a darkened version of the picture where the two figures are immersed in shadows.  That was the version of the picture I saw first.

Perry. I am lost for words. Your mind goes places no mind should ever go!

That's true, and I'm counting on you to yank it out of here!

The visions this brings creeps me out. Still, I can hear the music, smell the smoke. Good on ya'. Again, I can't figure out my user name WordPress, so I will sign this, Alicia Jamtaas

Hi, Alicia, it creeps me out too, every time I blow the blues on it!

Well - Perry, after reading I went back to stare at the pic, and saw what what you meant :D

I can't... I have no words and that is rare, my friend.

But you are creative :)

As Elaine said in Seinfeld, "I am speechless. I am ... without speech."

That story started out so lovely and serious, Perry. I should have known better. It ended with me laughing out loud. : ) I also went back and looked again at the photo and saw it the way you did, unfortunately. Hilarious. : )

Now, if they can just get Wilber "Cheeks" Vinson to play the butt-crack bass they'll have a real hopping sound.

Good to know I'm not nuts. The version of the picture that I got was shaded dark so I immediately I saw this and nothing else.

Thank you, Jean! Those words are good enough for me. Thanks for writing and I hope everything is going well.

And yet she's now Vice-President of the United States. Go figure.

Perry Block said...

It's the only way to look at that photo I think. Thanks for seeing it my way!

Wilber "Cheeks" Vinson is not the butt-crack bass player he used to be. It happens to all butt-crack bass players when their rectums become immobile in later years and --- hey, I'm even disgusting myself here!

You're still nuts, Perry! Also, do outees really collect lint?

Perry Block said...

No, outtees need be cleaned only once a year unlike innees which, like fish and houseguests, stink after three days.

SWEET! -- and a little weird. damn you're imagination is weird. another brilliantly hilarious story Perry :)

Perry Block said...

Thank you, kz! Not that your imagination isn't a bit weird as well....

How did I not see that before? Hilarious tale. You are such a nutter, Perry. I can't wait for next week :D

You need a dark copy of the picture and it's unmistakable. If you are looking at a lighter contrast, I understand why people can't see it. Thanks!

Dear Perry,

Words escape me and I can't make the images go away. Musical outtee? That's right up there with the musical armpit. Dare I say you're a bit warped? And therein lies your charm.

Shalom,

Rochelle

Thanks, Rochelle. If you look at a dark image of the picture, you can't fail to interpret the broad expanse in the left foreground as belly. Imagination does the rest. And I've always loved the music of Tubbs Augustine!

Thanks a bunch. Now I can't not see it. Seriously--seek help :)

Perry, you are certifiable you know that, don't you! I looked at the picture (dark as you said) and not once thought about a naval outee filled with lint. But I do see the outee! You make me laugh so much - you're funny! Have a good week! Nan :)

Perry Block said...

Told you: Look at the dark image and you can't not see that billowing belly with the enormous chess piece of an outtee! Damn, just grossed myself out ...

Perry Block said...

Thank you, Nan. Sorry to gross everyone out. You have a good week too.

Perry Block said...

I agree. I just can't get it out of my head!

Perry Block said...

No, actually it's more belly button blowing!

Your blog seems like a strange place for Billy Tubbs to come outee but what do I know I hang with the innie crowd. ;)

A navel engagement, how novel!! Perry, you always find the funny. I've never heard an outee before, but now I feel like I have!
